Gone are the days when wristwatches only had one function & that is to tell time. These days, smartwatches are in trend & they deserve it for all the good reasons. In recent years, smartwatches have undergone an evolution. They now have specs like- Accurate heart rate detection, Bluetooth calling, waterproof for swimming, 230-350 mAh rechargeable battery, alarm clock reminders, motion recording (step counting, distance, calorie counting), multiple sports modes, sleep monitoring, blood pressure measurement, blood oxygen saturation measurement, seconds meter, photo control, music playback & much more.
And with great features, comes great responsibilities, especially when it comes to manufacturing smartwatches. So, in this article, we will briefly describe what steps are involved in manufacturing smartwatches.
Steps involved in manufacturing Smartwatches
Broadly, there are about 8 to 10 steps involved in making or manufacturing smartwatches. Let’s go through them one point at a time.
- The very first step is to get the best quality chipsets from your choice of smart wearable device solutions provider. Or if you are into this business, then you can get the chipsets produced in-house. These chipsets play a major role in managing the data flow of your device, i.e. data between your smart wearable device’s processor, memory, and external devices like smartphones, etc.
- The next step involves designing the motherboard circuit, writing down its software & test functions. You can also write/ create apps that you would want your smartwatch to have.
- Third step would be to design the outer body of the smartwatch and get a virtual view or appearance of the smartwatch. Use CAD or 3D CAD applications for that.
- Fourth step involves prototyping the smartwatch and testing if it works as planned. If any edits or changes are needed, then some or all of the previous steps could be repeated again to obtain a perfect prototype. To prototype the outer body of the smartwatch, technologies like 3D printing (rapid prototyping) could also be used. Also, make sure the UI/UX of the smartwatch is excellent.
- Once all the testing is complete on the prototype & the prototype is finalized, then the sample can be put into mass production.
- Another important step is to design the outer box/ packaging materials for the smartwatch and get it mass produced.
- Now that the smartwatch is to be assembled, get the required components, such as screen, strap, battery, charger, etc. Acquire them or get the custom ones produced according to your needs.
- To ensure that the best quality smartwatches are produced, check the quality of all components before production/assembly.
- Get all the components assembled and the final products packed properly. One could do the assembly process in-house or could assign the assembly to a reliable OEM partner / EMS assembly service provider company. Such assembly lines must always focus heavily on quality assurance and testing as well.
- Get your mass produced orders ready to be available in the market.
For a company to do all of these steps is very challenging. So, to give them a helping hand, PCB assembly service providers like ‘East India Technologies Pvt Ltd’ are always ready for service.
